Counting with numerals (the symbols used to distinguish numbers) could be traced back to ancient Egypt. The Egyptians came up with the first ciphered numeral system, and the Greeks followed by mapping their counting numbers onto Ionian and Doric alphabets.[1] The Hindu-Arabic numeral system is the most common system used in the world today.
